In a global context in which the economic and trade dimensions would increasingly be structured as a regulated order of economic blocs, the relations of the European Union (EU) with other regional blocs would acquire new relevance based on their economic potential, their exemplary character for other regional structures, and because of the implicit connotations for the international field. From a realistic attitude, Latin American countries are aware that they are not a priority on the EU's foreign policy agenda. The European commitment to the region does not provide clear indicators of a univocal desire to deepen ties, although the reasons for this distant attitude are often motivated by attitudes or problems generated within Latin American states.
