In this paper, a description of the manifestation of the political and economic dimensions of the Andean subregional integration process during 1980 is made, to then make a balance of the interrelation between them. Without attempting to cover all the multiple facets of a process of such complexity, the most important elements of judgment of the internal and external political dimension are described, as well as the degree of advancement of the basic mechanisms of the economic dimension established by the Cartagena Agreement. Finally, an attempt is made to evaluate the interrelation between both dimensions and the results of this interrelation for the progress of the integration process.
