Strategies for the Development of Reading and Socioemotional Competence

Authors

Abstract

This article addresses the problem of the decreased results in reading and socioemotional competence of high school students in Chile during the first two decades of the 21st century. Based on a documentary research work, two proposals for strategies are presented to develop both competences and contribute to improving these processes and results. The first strategy consists of a restructuring of the complementary reading and the second in a socio-emotional education program. One of the conclusions reached is that there is a wide variety of approaches and proposals for development strategies of the competencies that are investigated, which is an advantage both for implementing improvements and updates in pedagogical practices and for interdisciplinary development of both competences.
