The covid-19 pandemic has led several governments to adopt policies to protect the employment and income of the population in their countries. In Brazil, the institute adopted was the Emergency Program for Preservation of Employment and Income. In Germany, the kurzarbeit, a program created during the 2008-2009 crisis, was relaxed during the pandemic to benefit more people. The general objective of this work will be, therefore, to compare these two programs, from the perspective of economic efficiency and social well-being. For this, there will be the use of the deductive method, bibliographical studies, and data analysis. As a conclusion of the work, it is pointed out that despite the similarities and differences that these two programs have, both were efficient in avoiding an exponential increase in unemployment.
